Default Waste Bin as a Lens Hood

I had an idea of sculpting a lens hood for my HV30, out of a regular plastic waste bin. Some waste bins are metal while others are like a hard plastic. I have come across a black waste bin to which the plastic material was fairly easy to cut and shape the lens hood, I figured it would be a good idea, I'll supply pictures soon. Has anyone considered this or done it in the past?

Are you going to just crawl in to that thing with your camcorder?

considering the time and effort to cut that bin and make a hood, the cost of an already made hood doesnt seem too expensive. eh, to oppose everyone else shooting down your idea, go for it, let us know if it was worth the effort.

In addition to this, I would like to add a few comments:

While this is a creative and resourceful idea, and while it may work just fine, in the end its likely to look like you have a trash can attached to the end of your camcorder. Not very refined aesthetically. Considering that you can get a factory made hood for under $10, it may not be worth it.

But then again, theres the DIY factor which can never be discounted. If you take satisfaction in making functional equipment yourself (as I do) and you are not concerned as much with aesthetics, it may well be worth it.
