Default 24P Project Preset for Premiere Pro CS2 / Element

If you want to edit 24P with Premiere Pro 2 or CS3, you can download the preset from adobe.com

Using CS3 for Mac - the original post mentioned both PP 2.0 and CS3.
I'm I out of luck using 24p project templates / workflow with Premiere CS3 for Mac Pro?

    Default 24F vs 24p

That premiere preset works for 24F mode found on the XL-H1. Are you sure it works with the HV20's 24p mode?

For the 24p without pulldown removed, you can edit using HDV60i preset. If you have pulldown removed, then you will need a HDV project preset with 24fps timeline. This preset download will work with HV20 24p video with pulldown removed.

wait what exactly do you mean?

like now if i go direct 24p from HV20 I can only edit in the HDV60i preset if i don't do pulldown.

so with this, can i edit with the 24p preset without pulldown?

If you get the HV20 24p footage directly without removing pulldown, that is a 60i footage. So you need to work on a HDV 60i timeline.

If you removed pulldowns (using any method of your choice) from the Hv20 24p footage, that you indeed have a true 24p footage in 23.976 fps. Then you will need a 23.976 preset in Premiere to edit your video. Premiere doesn't come with such preset. You will need to download it from the link provided above.

That doesn't mean if you have such preset, you can load the 60i video in it and Premiere will remove the pulldowns for you. NO

I tried installing the additional thing, but I think I did it wrong. Could somebody please tell me what the editing presets should be after it is installed? Here is what I see in the HDV section.

    HDV 1080i25 (50i)
    HDV 1080i30 (60i)
    HDV 1080p25
    HDV 1080p30
    HDV 720p25
    HDV 720p30

What ones am I missing? I don't see any for 24 frames per second.

If you install it correctly, you will see a Canon 24F folder tree. What you are viewing is from the HDV folder tree.

I see a DV-24P, but no 24F. I must have done it wrong. I am using CS3. Are you sure it works for CS3 too? On Adobe's website it is under the Adobe Premiere Pro 2 section.

Thanks for the link Taky- I've actually already looked here, but with no avail. I've checked all over the net and it seems, sadly, like there are no presets available for the MAC version of Premier Pro CS3 that can handle true 24p from the HV20. Man... is this what everyone else is coming up with? I can't find anything on this topic- is it really that small of a percentage within video editors?

Bummer- looks like I'm stuck using 60i timelines to edit my '24p' footage until Adobe releases some new presets for the MAC side of things. My only alternative editing program is iMovie HD which doesn't have support for 24p timelines either... big bummer!

Anyone else able to speak into this and show me a different conclusion? ... please?

It's not surprising consider there isn't any Premiere Pro for Mac until CS3. That was after Mac decide to go with the Intel chip. The 24P preset is written for Premiere Pro 2.0 but there isn't a Mac version of Premiere 2.0.

Adobe lost the video editing in Mac marketshare to Final Cut Pro.

What you can try to do is to fill out the feature request/bug report form to let Adobe knows you need a 24P preset for Premiere in Mac.

Thanks Taky- I'll do just that...

Okay so if that isn't an option, then would CineForm be a viable option? If I purchased a version of that for Mac, would that give me the ability to edit in 24p through a MAC version of Premier Pro CS3? I have read much about CineForm but have been unable to delineate how it actually works in conjuction with the program on MAC. I will try to download a trial tonight and see if I have any success with this.

EDIT: Errrrr... scratch that- it looks like CineForm isn't truly for Mac but is listed as being able to run on a 'BootCamp' Mac... which basically means it runs on Windows only. Bummer yet again. I'm up a creek it would seem.

I think you've got your sides mixed up Taky.

If I were primarily a video editor I may see your point, but alas, I'm not. I'm actually a print/web graphic designer by day and thus find Mac much more home-like. I'm not a fanboy of either actually- I worked in windows enviroments for years before I switched to MAC.

Premiere Pro CS3 was actually a bonus for me which is why I use it. When upgrading my CS1 products, I found it more financially viable to upgrade to the Master Suite which includes all of Adobe's products, including Premiere Pro CS3 (which I previously had no version of on my computer). It was a financial decision for me really, because it meant that I got a whole slew of of professional video editing programs (after effects, premier pro, encore, soundbooth) for free when upgrading my regular graphic programs (photoshop, indesign, illustrator, flash, dreamweaver, etc).

So yeah... long story short- I'm stuck with using the MAC version of Premiere Pro CS3 due to financial constraints. Ah well... I'll work with the fake 24p, 60i wrapper-encrusted format for now... but just you wait... I'll get my day... won't I?

    Thanks for all your help!
