Pulldown removal for HV40 ?

Set you HV40 to 24F...you'll shoot in 24fps progressive, let your NLE program indexing your stream and you'll be done. The PF24&PF30 needs to remove pulldown in order to work with progressive footage...

Anyone knows if it's possible to change an NTSC HV30 to a PAL, I mean to switch the system in one.
I have an HV30 NTSC and a friend of mine has an HV40 PAL, and I want to be able to do 2 camera shoots. I know someone did once an accidental switch from PAL to NTSC with some special remote, on some other camera brand, and then they switch it back to PAL.

You should be able to do a 2 camera shoots if you set them to 24f (NTSC) and 25f (PAL). By shooting with a 2 camera setup, you'll have shorts clips : which means -> switching from one camera to the other for the final cut. So 1 fps won't do a big difference in the end..or, for more professionalism, you can convert it from 25 to 24 fps (23.796 actually) with After Effects or another program. That would be an option...

Fact: 24P is only for NTSC model. PAL has only 25p and 50i. If you are using PAL, don't worry about pulldown removal.

Uhhhhh, isn't the PAL HV40 the one you DO want to worry about pulldown removal, and the NTSC is not? This is backwards..

It's not backwards; it is an accurate statement.
If you have PAL (of whatever model), you do not have to worry about pulldown.

However, you are correct that the NTSC HV40 does not need pulldown removal. This is completely consistent with what the admin said.

Yes, absolutely. That was very nicely put in a nutshell.
So I am going for HV30 (PAL) and based on these pointers, I guess no one in PAL should go in for HV40 unless someone wants to pay extra $400 for a new button.

PS : But left me with a bad feeling about canon that they have tried to push HV30 as HV40 (with not even some changes about the working, except cosmetic changes) and charging $400 extra for it. Even when cars come with new models they at least have some new features (not just new colour or new door handle) for the extra money they charge.

Basically Canon is trying to use ignorance of new users (who dont realise that there is no functionl difference between HV30 and HV40 except the extra price)

canon no longer manufactures hv20's or hv30's. they only manufacture hv40's now. but you can get ahold of an hv20 or hv30 easily online.
