Default HV40: Can I record video on the MiniSD card?

    Hello everybody,

My HV40 just arrived and I was very surprised to find out it has a MiniSD slot. While I understand it can store pictures, it's not clear for me whether you can record video on it.

(Sorry if this is a stupid question)

No video can be recorded on the miniSD card. It is worth getting a card whether or not you plan to shoot still images, because when a card is installed a half press of the photo button will also display the aperture and shutter speed in video mode.

Yeah definitely get a Mini SD card, only like $10 on eBay. I use it all the time when you use the no gain hack aka photo button trick. Search around the forums for that

Be sure though, to get a card no larger than 2 GB.

The larger "SDHC" cards may not work with the HD cameras (says Canon's manual)...
