Thread: Has anyone bought Cineform Neo Scene from BH?

Default Has anyone bought Cineform Neo Scene from BH?

I am considering buying Cineform Neo Scene but obviously it is the most expensive if I buy it from Cineform. Since I trust BH (i've bought from them before), I am willing to purchase from them:

    http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc...r_Windows.html

On the product details page, there is a picture of a CD with a sticker reading "Cineform" with a few other details. This looks very unprofessional. Seems like an ebay type product.

And, the version number is 1.37 which is not the latest version of Neo Scene.

    Said factors concern me.

Has anyone bought from them before? I want to assure myself this is still a good buy.

I bought mine from VideoGuys on Friday. Same price ($99), download the trial from Neoscene and then buy the registration code from VG's. You'll be up & running in 30 minutes.

so you are purchasing solely the registration code? does it come with a cd or disc, if something got shipped to you at all?

Okay, so I'm a little confused here. My friend gave me a bunch of clips from his 7D for me to edit and color correct. I'm using the Adobe Premiere Pro CS4. It was very slow playback when dropping the .mov clips onto the timeline. So in Media Encoder, I rendered out those .mov clips to .avi files using the Lagarith Codec and to my amazement, editing on the timeline was smooth after rendering (hitting shortcut ENTER). Granted it took about 10 minutes for a 3 minute clip. But it's something that I can certainly live with. It doesn't look like I would need to purchase Cineform. Oh and I'm running Windows 7 64bit, Core 2 Quad with 8 gigs of RAM.

No, you download the trial version from Neoscene and install it. Make sure it works ok. If it does, and you want to buy it, go to Videoguys and purchase it there. Videoguys sends you an e-mail with a Neoscene serial number. Follow Cinescore's directions, which are a little twisted, to register your machine and serial number with Cinescore using their applet. Cinescore will then reply with an e-mail containing an activation key. ctrl-c, ctrl-v and you're done. It took me about half an hour and cost $99. I bought two - one for my desktop, one for my laptop. I bought it because unlike Vegas Pro 8, VP9 doesn't include a cinescore intermediate codec, which I use extensively for slo-motion work as per Eugenia's blog. HTH.

Typo - I meant Cineform. Since the OP never returned to his thread there seemed little point in fixing it. Thanks for finding it, though.

ok, thanks. Say, has that registering been a hassle? what about when
you need to reformat/ reinstall your os?

I tried their demo once and it seemed to really dig into the registry.

Cineform has first class customer support. They stand by their products and let you upgrade a product while "refunding" the purchase price of the original product. Try that with Adobe.

If you are a Prospect HD user you can currently upgrade for free to NEO 4k. This is a fantastic upgrade. Expires in August. Includes the newer codec which can encode an alpha channel.

No version was able to encode an alpha channel in the past. AFAIK this is a new feature. Whether or not this is available on the lower end stuff, I have no idea. I was just reminding the Prospect HD users that they are eligible for an absolutely fantastic free upgrade.
