How does experience with HVXX transfer to newer models?
I'm curious as to whether all of the tips and tricks used with the HV series are still usable with the new stuff. Can you still use, or need to use the "exposure lock"? Are the cinemode effects and contrast adjustments to get a desired look identical? Do they have the same issues with DOF? ETC?
I'm interested to hear from those that have time under their belt with both old and new cameras as to what the experience has been.
Thanks!

Yep, the experience transfers just fine. I went from my HV to a GH1 (Mirrorless DSLR) and the experience I had with the HV actually really helped. Exposure lock is always good to use, in fact I believe it to be a crime if you DON'T use it. Cinemode is hit-or-miss... use it if you need lattitude in colour grading, otherwise stick with vivid colour settings and rock away.

My first was an HV40, which I still have.
I just got a used HF100 and even though there are no zebras I now have more of an eye for things
that I did starting out, and I do lock exposure after getting it as close to the "safe zone" ( no gain zone ) as possible, so I'd say yes.
It seems, at least with these 2 cameras, the same principles apply for getting good exposure.
