new computer build

Hey everyone, it's time for me to build a new computer and i'm curious about a couple things.

First of all my rig will be using an ASUS P8Z77-V based motherboard (not sure which model yet).
An Intel Core I7-3770 Ivy Bridge 3.4 GHz CPU
with 16GBs of DDR3 Ram.

I don't believe this motherboard has a firewire port so i'm guessing i need a card. What would be a good card to go with this combo? I have looked at cards before but really don't know what i'm looking for.

The motherboard also has support for the new USB 3.0 protocal. Not sure if it's even going to be an issue with editing or not.

I'm building this rig mainly for gaming, but want to make sure i have everything i need for editing HD content too. My editing software is Vegas Movie Studio 8. Is there anything else i should be considering?

I was also looking at getting a card reader with a 1394 port (firewire). I don't see 1394 listed in the specs of the internal I/O ports on the motherboard i was looking at. Any other way of using this reader with a port rather than a firewire card?

AFAIK this, or virtually any PCI card will work - make sure you can find drivers though.

Card reader with FireWire? They are longtime gone. There are ASUS Z8 with FireWire on board. The Hackintosh community is using them. I don't know the exact model number though.

I would suggest that you look for a card with a Texas Instruments chipset and not a Ricoh chipset. Several manufacturers, including SIIG and Syba, make them. The Ricoh chipsets have given many people a lot of grief with compatibility issues with various hardware. Just Google 1394 PCI TI chipset and you'll see what is currently available.

It has the IEEE 1394 port included with the card reader and USB ports making it real handy, but it would have to be hooked up to a IEEE 1394 header somewhere on the motherboard. Just not sure if there is one already on the board or if it would have to go through a card and a PCI slot. They used to make motherboards with the 1394 ports, but it must be old technology now.

Well, If you can afford the new models, and don't mind the wait, I'd strongly recommend you getting a motherboard with Thunderbolt.

That thing you pictured only works if you get FW on board or a PCI card. There still are plenty of boards with FW built in.
You also have to run cables to your USB and audio card internally.
