Default Royer & Hayes Introduces Game-Changing 'Prosumer' Workstation RH100

Omaha, NE, July 4, 2012: Royer & Hayes Workstations, an Omaha-based startup, introduced its first workstation offering, the RH100 – geared at content producing professionals, independent, and student filmmakers. “The RH100 provides a game-changing solution that fits in-between consumer-based desktops and server-grade workstations,” said co-founder Nick Royer. The workstations, which are hand-built to order, range in price from $2000 to just under $4000 dollars. “We wanted to make our base configuration a truly-capable workhorse,” said system engineer Stephen Hayes, “at $1,999 we’re offering a fully-featured workstation that supports hardware-accelerated playback in Premiere Pro and packs 16GB of RAM for After Effects and other intensive apps.”
The workstations are available for purchase beginning immediately thru RHWorkstations.com and ship in 2-3 weeks from the order date. “We’re excited to provide a unique alternative to the marketplace, and look forward to helping filmmakers make their creative visions a reality.”

    Good luck!

Are you gonna offer turnkey systems somewhen?

The Korova milkbar sold milk-plus, milk plus vellocet or synthemesc or drencrom, which is what we were drinking. This would sharpen you up and make you ready for a bit of the old ultra-violence.

Hmm- sweet. Great starting point for a great biz empire to come. Thanks for looking out for us. That said, now what are the advantages that a server grade workstation have over the usual PC assuming that they all have the same specs of eg. Quad core of 2.8ghz and 16gb RAM?

You're only shipping to USA? It wasn't available for Québec, Canada when I've checked.

Honestly, we hadn't thought about shipping to Canada. We were sticking to the U.S. at first because we figured international shipping to Europe would be outrageous, but shipping to Canada would likely not be bad. We will definitely look into adding Canada shortly. Thanks!

Well we are calling this a 'prosumer' workstation because it is basically using high-end consumer products (that aren't available on most retail consumer computers) as opposed to the 'server-grade' components used on the high-end workstations, such as Xeon processors and Quadro graphics cards. In our testing (and in others too, see PCBM5.com for instance), using high end consumer products designed for gaming, when put into a good configuration, provide a much better bang-for-the-buck compared to the server component workstations. Using Xeon processors instead of i7's and Quadro graphics cards instead of GeForce cards does make a difference, but in most cases with video editing we are talking about a 5-10% performance boost that costs more than double what our offering does. The RH100 (in a ~$4000 spec) is matching and even outperforming high-end Dell and HP workstations that easily cost $6000-8000 dollars in our benchmark tests.
