Default Software suggestions for importing AVCHD

Hi People, its been a while, its good to see some familiar members and new ones too.

I would appreciate some suggestions on software to import the AVCHD files from a new Canon camera, and also a Panasonic point and shoot. The inbuilt Pixela Video Transfer is almost perfect for my needs, except it refuses to work with the Panasonic and if I do multiple imports on a day with footage from that day it will create a new folder eg 20120713 and 20120713_1, 20120713_2.

I found a thing called GH1Importer that works great with the point and shoot, but not the Canon.

Basically the features I desire are:
    • rename of files based on recording date/time
    • sorting of files into individual folders for date
    • ability so specify root store location, ie d:\captures
    • multi brand compatibilty
    • ease of use, ie one click "download all new videos" type thing

I've searched high and low, across the seven seas, but havent really found much.

    Any ideas?

You don't need an importer, just drag and drop from your SD card.

I am perfectly aware of that , but as per the dot points, to achieve the desired results I'd have to do the following:

    1. Plug card in
    2. Open Windows Explorer
    3. Navigate to card
    4. Look at create date on mts
    5. Navigate to capture folder
    6. Create new folder reflecting create date
    7. go back to sd card
    8. copy file
    9. go back to capture folder
    10. paste
    11. check create date/time
    12. rename based on time.
    13. Repeat for each file.

    or with Video transfer
    1. plug card in
    2. load Video Transfer
    3. Click download...

I did look at Vegas Device Explorer, it was recommended somewhere. Its not as elegant IMHO as the Video transfer. I'm trying to come up with something foolproof for the Mrs, that loads in a snap
