Default my first video project-music video

My friend Regulo, a few others and I got together one night to shoot footage for a music video to one of Regulo's songs. we spent all night on this project at an abandoned run down house.
After seeing the finished product, I can say it was worth the time and energy. I am very pleased on how the footage turned out and Regulo's editing. Regulo had some great ideas for the shots. Looking forward to shooting his next video.

i used a canon hf-s11 on auto mode. not bad considering the lack of proper lighting, but then again, that's how Regulo wanted it to look.
give it a play and i know this type of music isn't for everyone.
at least watch it for the hot chick with the red hair. she, by the way is the singer for a local portland, oregon band...among the weeds....she has an outstanding voice.

as your first effort, technically there is not a lot "wrong" with it. except the goofy paper mache and tin foil demon mask sucked any potential validity out of it right out of the gate.

overall, it was quite watchable and as good or better than any other first effort you will see - so kudos on that!

but creatively, its seems like you were just running through a checklist of every late 80's early 90's industrial/alternative visual reference (and the artist may have dictated that - as he's not exactly sailing any uncharted waters with his song):

abandoned building with a lot of junk - check
oil barrels with fire - check
security video with scanlines - check
    S&M chick - check
    strobelights - check
extreme closeup of instruments - check

i hate to suggest this, because its just another visual cliche. but the whole set looked WAY too clean. i think finding a way to have kicked up some dust in the room would have added some thickness to the look. or maybe add some layering in post and do a selective /jittery focus or "greasy lens" effect to the whole thing.

also, NOTHING screams HOBBYIST louder than cutting to inverted colors for no apparent reason

i know it sounds like im being negative. i just hate to see people rehashing the same cliches that have already been done - you should hear me go off on the tons of copycat hip hop videos : )

    overall - good first effort.

he actually wears the mask for his live performances. he would like to get a latex rubber mask made, but not sure where to look.
there was chunks of asbestos on the floor. kicking up dust was not an option, plus no one knows what else is in that dust.
i don't think he was trying to be cliche.
he has ideas for the next vid, it should be better and in daylight also.

5 stars. Better than 90% of videos posted here which are just close ups of the singer/rapper in different locations and cutaways to the band.

Some silver paint instead of tinfoil could add something to the mask, but I love the mask!

Any big hardware like Lowes or Home Depot will have some metallic silver paint.

I do agree that some of the random special effects weren't needed and I don't like the cut to the photo. Generally if you're going to add a photo it's better to use a freeze frame of a clip to stop the action for a second, then cut to something else.
