Last clue for tonight: The director has half a dozen movies on the particular "100 best" list I'm referring to above. He has been considered both patriotic as well as controversial.

    Well, there's a D W Griffith movie called "Isn't Life Wonderful".....

But of course that's not it.

    Of course not.

Hey, Krute - you can do better than that! Or anyone else for that matter... I've already provided enough clues, IMO.

All my next grabs will be giveaways - more or less - so now I'll give you all a hint instead: The director has made two films whose titles start with "Mr."

Well that reinforces what I was thinking the other day - that it's a John Ford film.

Oh wait! The title starts with "Mr"...

Can't have "Mr" as the second word? No, I suppose not.

    Okay then...Frank Capra.

Oh dear, that narrows it down.....

Well, because one of the men in Post #19 looked a bit like Lionel Barrymore, I'll try "You Can't Take it With You".... for starters...

No - and I won't post the next grab yet, so now you'll have to let someone else guess before making your second guess...

    Ain't I a stinker?

    Just to help out Krane...

I was thinking of the 1962 version of The Stranger.

As a guess to open up the field for others ... Meet John Doe. (because I think that involved a newspaper)

Actually, you closed the field, MrMicah, since you won!

Meet John Doe is indeed correct.

Hmmm. It was a bit of a wild guess.

Yes Almohada, its my first win. I am not likely to be a regular here, as my film knowledge is not that great. I just look at films and enjoy them, but I don't necessarily remember directors or actors or the like.

Give me about 24 hours. Its evening here and I need to get up early to fly to Adelaide in the morning and back tomorrow night, but I'll have a new thread started, with a clue and a clip within 24 hours.

The Newspaper image and my limited knowledge of Capra films (you uncovered the Director's details). I had to check the internet as I thought it might have been "The John Doe" or "Mr John Doe" based on other clues etc.

I thought that I'd probably eliminate one Capra movie from the choices and let you or someone else have another guess.

You can go an sledge my Antman entry if it makes you feel better.

I'd better go to bed and think up a new choice. Has Ron Jeremy every been in anything that got international release?

Well, now I'm disappointed. I assumed you had cleverly picked up my "generic name" remark in Post #36. I expected someone would.

    I'll check it out tomorrow.

How do you mean "in" anything?

Bedtime here, too. Another brass monkey night, I think.

Not sure... Ron has been "in and out" of the business lately...
