    Default Original deadline or...?

Was that 3 months deadline a good idea or shall we stick with the original 2-weeks deadline?

    How about just 1 month

I think 3 months is too long... we forget and procrastinate.

Or maybe we have a mix.

48hr or 72hr type events and some longer cycle events.

I think both are just as good. Has to do with the idea behind the round. This summer festival was a great experience for me.

I'm undecided. Mostly because I've been so busy as of late, and when I do have spare time I spend most of it sleeping. The three months was a bit long, but if it was something to be really complicated, that time-frame would be needed. However, the two week time-frame does put it tight for others.
I would be interested in the 1 month time-frame, though history has shown through other contests that the longer the period, not necessarily more entries.
My skills are vast, rendering me capable of too many things.

Not a bad idea. I started this topic just to make sure people share their thoughts about it. So we'll be able to get what we really want & need.

Not a bad idea neither. 48hrs and 72hrs are short periods though, but if people want one from time to time, then go for it!

Depending on the complexity of the idea, we'll see then.
The summer festival was a good idea I think, I wanted to enter, but after 3 times with actors unavailable...I decided to drop the idea of entering...unfortunately.

Well, I'd like to try that one month soon though, just to check if it works well or not more than the others!

I'll add the 1month to the poll (if it's possible..)

72 hour sounds good!!! Would love to see what people can churn out that quick.

It won't be polished entries as usual, that's for sure!

I used the site: starnow.com, to secure my talent. Its an online talent agency of crew, talent, musicians etc ranging from total novices to more experienced people. It seems to have pretty wide global coverage (although I don't know what the depth is) . There also seem to be .uk, .nz and .au variants at least.

I just advertised the roles I wanted to cast, told them no pay, told them it was a first time effort and probably 'student' grade quality. I got enough interest to have to go through an audition process to find the best fit and get a sense of availability and reliability.

I have no affiliation with the site. I have also since encountered similar sites, so they might help people struggling to find talent for their productions.

    Thanks for the tips.
I don't think there's much people to be found here in Québec, but still, it's a nice website.

As for the deadline, I haven't been able to add the 1-Month option, but I think it would be a good option to consider too.

Well, seems that there's people there from Québec, and a couple pages! Might take a look for a further contest!
    Thanks for sharing!

    I like one month.

Closing always on the last day of the month.
The new theme announced immediately on the 1st.

This means there is always a competition on the go. In other words people can work on a new competition at the same time as judging, giving feedback and determining the next theme.

I note there is a Starnow.ca, if that helps.

I think that Playing's idea of ending on the last day of each month to keep things continuous is good.

My only variant would be to maybe consider announcing a month in advance. Technically it gives a 2 month period to prepare and create, but there is a contest end each month, so:

1 Jan, you announce the competition theme ending 28 Feb
1 Feb, you announce the competition theme ending 31 Mar
1 Mar, you announce the competition theme ending 30 Apr ... etc.

I have suggested the same some time ago. I think it is a good idea.
Especially if the date is always at the end of each month so there is little opportunity for confusion.

My suggestions are to keep this contest different from the Filmfights. First of all they do very short stuff, often only 30 seconds. If you want to keep the trailer to market the next competition this is how it's done best: When you've edited your short ready copy and paste the trailer on the same timeline after the short and render the trailer from there. Takes only 10-15 minutes and doesn't feel like work at all.
